Ecto-parasitic Infections (Scabies)
The condition is similar to Crabs yet the parasite just happens to be smaller and lives on the skin, resulting in itchiness from the hands, arms, trunks, legs and buttocks. Treatment is normally done on the whole body from the neck down, and then allowed to remain for anything from 8 to 14 hours depending on the extent of the infection. Also treatable with lindane as with crabs, but with an undesirable side effect of causing seizures, it is normally used only for limited periods, combined with other parasitic killers that have less toxicity. The organism that lives on the skin can be seen through a magnifying glass but not with the naked eye.
The itching that accompanies the condition is sadly to be expected to last for up to two months, even after a successful treatment regimen. As with other parasitic conditions, all bedding and clothing should be disinfected and treated aggressively to tame the infection, eventually killing off all traces of which can only be verified after months of treatment. Also transmittable through close contact or sexual intercourse, all partners or people who may have gotten into contact with infected material should be treated just the same.
