Chancroid

hemophilius.jpgChancroid is a highly contagious sexually transmitted disease that used to be restricted to Africa and Asia. Due to tourism and the proliferation of the sex trade in many parts of Asia the disease has begun to appear in developed countries. Though highly contagious, it is curable and it is caused by a bacteria called Haemophilus Ducreyi that results in ulcers or sores in the genital areas of the sufferer. Swollen or painful lymph glands may also be present and left untreated it makes contraction of HIV easier raising the risk. The presence of sores or open lesions makes it easier for the HIV virus to infect the human body which is more deadly than the previous disease. It can be transmitted through autoinoculation with the person coming in contact with pus from the sores which is then transmitted either sexually or by other means. The disease or infection is contagious as long as there are sores present that are caused by the disease. The infection can be confused with syphilis and herpes thus a more thorough exam is needed through gram stain analysis. The infection is easily controlled and eliminated through proper intake of antibiotics.
